You Can Help Become a volunteer

Tri-County Literacy has the following volunteer positions open. Click the job title to see a full description of the job and time commitment. These are great opportunities to help our organization and update your resume!

Special Events Reporter - Photograph and document Tri-County Literacy events; interview volunteers and other participants; prepare content for publishing online and in printed materials.

Facebook Administrator - Build and update a Facebook page for Tri-County Literacy; maintain Friends, Events, and Newsfeeds.

Program Evaluator - Review and assess existing goals for Tri-County Literacy programs; spend time in the field with program participants to get first-hand experience; evaluate efficacy of program toward goals.

Trivia Contest Coordinator - Recruit and manage volunteers for annual trivia contest fundraiser.

Scrabble Tournament Organizer - Schedule and organize 3 Scrabble tournament fundraisers annually (Spring, Fall, Summer).

Refreshment Planner - Recruit and schedule refreshment donations for Tri-County Literacy events such as, tutor trainings, support meetings, and annual meetings.

Volunteer Administrator - Manage volunteer applications; perform background checks on candidates; enter volunteers hours in a database.

Staff Evaluator - Review individual staff goals; meet with staff annually to assess progress toward goals.

Become a Tutor

blk25- You will receive a comprehensive package of theory and tools to prepare you work with an adult learner. The training is approximately 12 hours and is conducted locally. blk25- In addition, Verizon Literacy Campus offers volunteers self-paced training online at no cost. They even have several courses for the potential volunteer, including information on working with an adult literacy learner. Visit www.literacycampus.org to find out more.

blk25- Once you are trained as a tutor, you will be matched with an adult learner, and begin working with them to help them achieve their literacy goals. Tutors and their students usually meet once or twice a week for 1 - 2 hours at a location that is mutually convenient, such as a local library.

blk25- You can provide literacy services to people in a number of locations: public schools/adult education programs, libraries, Community-based organizations, Workplaces and Correctional facilities.
