Goals

Literacy Volunteers Goals
Our goal is to produce a more functionally literate community. Our learner-centered approach to tutoring means that each individual’s needs determine their literacy goals — which in turn become our goals.

Also, Literacy Volunteers is committed to: the personal growth of our students (i.e.. help students acquire basic literacy skills; personal student needs have precedence over organizational needs; tutoring is confidential, individualized, student-centered, and done at sites convenient to the student). the effective use of volunteers (i.e.. training and support to help build skills and knowledge of tutors). improving our community (ie. support others who make a commitment to provide citizens with access to effective literacy services). strengthening and improving our organization (i.e.. search for efficiency and creativity in program delivery; discover new ways to use resources to achieve literacy; remain responsive to our students needs).
